EOIs for Thematic Sessions & Workshops
Expression of Interest to Run Thematic Sessions or Workshops at ISB2017
The Program Committee invites teams of organisers to submit expressions of interest (EOI) to run Thematic Sessions or Workshops within the program of ISB 2017. EOIs are to be sent directly to the ISB2017 Program Committee at email@example.com by 30 December 2016. Thematic Session or Workshop organisers will be notified by 7 January 2017 of acceptance of their expressions of interest.
These will consist of a series of in-depth scientific and state-of-the-art presentations in important areas of biomechanics research. Typically, these will be future focused and cover different aspects of biomechanics that align with some of the ISB2017 themes and sub themes. However, other themes are welcome. The presentations can be by invitation from the Session organisers, or combinations of invited presentations and those selected from submitted abstracts.
All Thematic Session speakers will have to submit abstracts through the normal abstract submission process to be reviewed by the ISB2017 Scientific Committee. Invited speakers need to submit abstracts with the same title as in EOI, and in doing so they will be indicating their intent to present in the proposed Thematic Session.
Thematic Sessions can run in any parallel session timeslot where free presentations from abstracts are scheduled. Sessions should be 60-minutes long and include 3-4 proposed speakers, with one presentation timeslot (12 minutes) dedicated for overall discussions at the Session end. Presentations should preferably occupy single timeslots as per other parallel sessions, but, if well justified, one longer invited presentation per Session could consume 2 timeslots.
Workshops are interactive discussions or demonstrations on important areas of biomechanics research or technologies, which align with some of the ISB2017 themes and sub themes. Workshops are to be 2 hours long and will run on the Wednesday afternoon of the Congress, with 1 - 5 speakers, intending to give a maximum of 30-40 attendees a chance to "meet the experts".
Expression of Interest Format
The Thematic Session and Workshop EOIs should follow the format below, and be a maximum of three pages long, adhering to the font type and size, page size and margins of the ISB2017 normal abstracts. Note that the chairs and invited speakers will receive no financial support to attend ISB2017.
1. Title of Thematic Session or Workshop
Please do not just state the general topic to be covered, but give a specific title which describes lecture content as precisely as possible. “Catchy” titles are most welcome, especially for invited presentations.
2. Description of Thematic Session or Workshop
Please describe the value and significance of the topic and speaker(s) to enable the scientific committee to judge the merit of the proposal. This description should be a maximum of one page.
3. Program including name of proposed chairs and potential invited speakers
For Thematic Session or Workshop, the name of the chairs should be given.
For proposed invited speakers please provide their name, and proposed titles for each presentation. Again, specific titles are recommended, and please specify the duration of each lecture in minutes.
For speakers to be selected from the accepted abstracts please just show their speaking timeslots and that the speakers are “to be confirmed” following review of submitted abstracts.
4. List of speakers
For each proposed chair and invited speakers include their name, academic degree, title, e-mail address, mailing address.
Thematic Session or Workshop EOIs are to be sent directly to the ISB2017 Program Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org by 30 December 2016. Thematic Session or Workshop organisers will be notified by 7 January 2017 of acceptance of their expressions of interest.
